Applies to Product - Power Platform Administration

What’s happening?
Customer is seeking guidance on the best practices for restoring the production environment in preparation for an upcoming major release.

Reason:
The customer is concerned about potential data loss during the deployment of a major release planned for early January 2025 and is looking for options to ensure a successful backup and restore process.

Resolution:
Backup and Restore Steps:

  1. Log in to the Power Platform Admin Center at admin.powerplatform.com.
  2. Click on "Environments" and select the Production environment.
  3. Click on the "Backup + Restore" option.
  4. Click on "Restore or manage."
  5. Select the date and time of the backup you want to restore and click on proceed.
  6. Select the target environment to move the backup of Production from the database.
  7. Convert the Production environment to a sandbox environment to copy the backup data.
  8. Convert the environment back to Production after the data has been copied.
Important Considerations:
  1. The backup of the Production environment will only be available for the last 28 days.
  2. If the Production environment is switched to a sandbox for a manual restore, only backups from the past seven days can be chosen.
  3. After the restore is completed, change the environment back to Production as soon as possible to prevent the loss of any backups older than seven days.
