Applies to Product - Dynamics 365 Business Central

What’s happening?
The user is unable to complete the Power BI Assisted Setup in Business Central and receives the message: "We could not check your license for Power BI. Make sure you have an Active Power BI license for your user account. If you just activated a license, it might take a few minutes for Power BI to update."

Reason:
This arises due to the user holding a trial license for Power BI, which may not be sufficient for accessing built-in Power BI reports in Business Central. Specifically, a Power BI Pro license is required to utilize these features, and the current trial may not support the necessary functionalities.

Resolution:
Verify the Current License Type:

  1. Log into the Microsoft 365 Admin Center and confirm whether the assigned trial is for Power BI Pro or a basic/free version.
Assign a Power BI Pro License:
  1. If the trial is not for Power BI Pro, purchase a Power BI Pro license for the user via the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
  2. Steps to purchase:
    • Navigate to Subscriptions.
    • Search for "Power BI Pro" under available plans.
    • Purchase and assign the license to the user.
Activate and Sync Licenses:
  1. Ensure that the user logs into Power BI (via app.powerbi.com) after assigning the license to activate it.
  2. Wait up to 24 hours for synchronization between Microsoft 365, Power BI, and Business Central.
Retry Power BI Assisted Setup:
  1. After confirming that the user has an active Power BI Pro license, retry the Assisted Setup in Business Central.
  2. Navigate to Assisted Setup and complete all steps to verify that built-in reports load without errors.
Test Report Loading:
  1. Once setup is complete, test running built-in Power BI reports within Business Central to confirm functionality.
