What’s happening?
Encountering issues when attempting to access reports or virtual entities in Business Central, resulting in error messages such as "Microsoft.Dynamics.Nav.Runtime.NavFieldRef variable not initialized" or "The server has rejected the client credentials."

Reason:
The underlying cause of these issues may include: - A bug in the system related to the initialization of variables when accessing Power BI reports. - The user does not have the necessary Business Central license to access virtual tables from Power Pages.

Resolution:

  1. For the error "Microsoft.Dynamics.Nav.Runtime.NavFieldRef variable not initialized":
  2. Ensure that the "Power BI Connector Setup" table is populated. If it is empty, create a new record by:
    • Opening the "Power BI Connector Setup" page.
    • Switching to Edit mode if necessary.
    • Selecting the ‘+’ action to create a new record.
    • Ensuring that a record is successfully created.
  3. Retry accessing the report after creating the record.
  4. For access issues related to virtual entities:
  5. Confirm that the user has a valid Business Central license. Users with only a PowerApps license may not have access to Business Central virtual tables.
  6. Review the documentation on configuring access to virtual tables and ensure that all necessary permissions are assigned.
  7. If issues persist, consider escalating the case to the development team for further investigation or to explore additional workarounds.
  8. If the issue is identified as a bug, monitor for updates from the development team regarding fixes or patches.
  9. For any configuration issues, utilize the Site Checker tool to identify and resolve potential problems with the setup.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, further investigation may be required, and additional information may need to be gathered from the customer.
