Applies to Product - Dynamics 365 Business Central
What’s happening?
Experiencing issues with OpenID Connect for single sign-on in Dynamics 365 Business Central, particularly in the on-premises version 21.5. The issues may manifest as unexpected behavior during session management or client switching processes.
Reason:
The underlying cause of this may relate to the version of Business Central being used. Version 21.5 supports the old FederationMetadata, while versions 22 and above require the use of OpenID Connect. Additionally, there may be misleading or conflicting information regarding the authentication type and its relation to switching companies or performance issues.
Resolution:
- Review Configuration: Ensure that the topology and infrastructure of the on-premises deployment are correctly configured. This includes:
- The configuration file from the Business Central application server.
- The NAV configuration file for web settings from the Business Central web server.
- The configuration on the Azure side for app registration and the manifest file from Azure App.
- Event logs from the server for any error messages.
- Check Browser Settings:
- Ensure that no browser extensions are interfering with session management. Disable any active extensions if necessary.
- Confirm that the browser is updated to the latest version.
- Test the issue in an incognito or private browsing window to rule out browser settings or extensions.
- Network Connectivity: Verify that there are no known network issues affecting the session management.
- Gather Additional Information: If the issue persists, gather the following information for further investigation:
- The localization of Business Central.
- The version and cumulative update (CU) of Business Central.
- Confirmation if the functionality previously worked.
- The timeline of when the issue started occurring, including any recent changes in architecture, updates, or extensions.
- Engage Technical Personnel: It is recommended to have a technical person from the partner organization join the investigation session to provide clarity on the infrastructure and assist in resolving the issue.
