What’s happening?
Customers may experience confusion regarding the functionality of the line types "Billable" and "Both Budget and Billable" in project journals, as they appear to yield similar results when posting project journals.
Reason:
The behavior observed is a result of the system design linked to the "Apply Usage" field on the project. If "Apply Usage" is set to FALSE, creating a Billable line from the project journal results in a single Billable line in the project planning. Conversely, if "Apply Usage" is set to TRUE, the system generates two lines: one for budget and another for billable.
More Information:
- Verify the setting of the "Apply Usage" field on the project:
- If "Apply Usage" = FALSE, a single Billable line will be created in the project planning.
- If "Apply Usage" = TRUE, the system will create two lines: one for budget and one for billable.
- Understand the purpose of each line type:
- Budget: Used to estimate usage and calculate Work In Progress (WIP), but cannot be invoiced.
- Billable: Used for invoicing purposes.
- For further clarification, refer to the documentation on creating project cards and specifying tasks in the system.
