What’s happening?
Customers are unable to delete completed tasks in Dynamics 365 Project Operations. The delete option is greyed out for completed tasks, and users are required to move tasks back to 'Not started' to delete them.

Reason:
The inability to delete completed tasks is due to time effort logged against the task. If there are actuals logged, the delete option will not be available. This behavior is linked to the configuration of the task entity and the presence of actuals related to the tasks.

Resolution:

  1. Confirm if there are any actuals logged against the completed tasks.
  2. If actuals are present, the effort completed field must be set to zero before attempting to delete the task.
  3. Make any change to the task outside the tasks tab, such as changing the remaining effort from the tracking grid.
  4. After a few minutes, open the project in the tasks tab and wait 5-10 seconds.
  5. The delete option should now be available in the context menu, allowing the user to delete the task from the UI.
