What’s happening?
Customers are seeking clarification on how the CostAmountPosted field in the InventTrans table is calculated, particularly in relation to inventory transfer journals and the impact of invoicing on this field.

Reason:
The CostAmountPosted (Financial Cost Amount) field is updated when the Purchase Order (PO) or Sales Order (SO) is invoiced (financial posting). This field takes the running average amount from the PO/SO invoice for the item, reflecting the financial updates.

When an inventory transaction is fully settled, the sum of "CostAmountPosted" (plus any "CostAmountAdjustment") must match the "CostAmountSettled" for the transaction to be considered closed.

Resolution:

  1. To verify the behavior of the CostAmountPosted field:
    1. Create a normal PO/SO or intercompany PO/SO.
    2. Get the record ID for the PO/SO transactions.
    3. Click “Show all fields” to retrieve the record ID.
    4. Go to the InventTrans table filtered by the InventTransOrigin ID.
    5. Check the CostAmountPosted field in the table browser for the relevant PO/SO lines.
  2. It is important to note that the cost amount posted will take the inventory value for the quantity that is financially updated (invoiced) in the transaction.
