What’s happening?
Customers are unable to delete released products or active cost prices from a price list in Dynamics 365, receiving error messages indicating that items cannot be deleted while dependent impacted products exist.
Reason:
The inability to delete a released product is due to existing dependencies, such as related transactions or impacted products. This behavior is expected as per the product design, where certain documents (like Engineering Change Orders) reference the engineering product, preventing deletion.
Resolution:
- For Deleting Released Products:
- Ensure that the product does not have any related transactions.
- Close all open transactions for the items.
- Reduce the inventory to 0 (zero).
- Perform inventory closing.
- Delete all product variants for the product master that you want to delete.
- If you encounter the error message: "Items cannot be deleted while dependent impacted products exist. Delete dependent impacted products and try again," navigate to the released product details form, under the purchase tab - Discounts field group, and remove the value in the 'Line discount group' field.
- For Deleting Active Cost Prices:
- Currently, it is not possible to deactivate or delete an activated cost price. The recommended approach is to set up a new cost price, which will take effect as the latest price, while the old price will remain in the list.
- For Bulk Deletion through DMF:
- It is advised to reach out to your partner technical team for assistance, as data deletion has a very limited scope in support and will be handled on a best-effort basis only.
- General Note:
- If a product is created through an Engineering Change Order (ECO), it cannot be deleted as ECO is a document that refers to this product.
