What’s happening?
The customer is inquiring whether an item set up as consigned stock (with the tracking dimension "owner" activated) can be converted to non-consigned stock (with the tracking dimension "owner" turned off) using the same item code.
Reason:
The tracking dimension for a released product can be changed; however, it requires that the inventory has been completely closed and all inventory values settled. The process of ensuring that an item is financially closed is complex and time-consuming, as it involves settling all inventory values from various locations and owners.
Resolution:
- Confirm that the inventory has been fully closed.
- Ensure that all inventory values have been settled before attempting to change the tracking dimension.
- Note that the owner tracking dimension cannot be removed once it has been set up and has transactions associated with it. Therefore, the usual methods of zeroing the stock and closing off any inventory transactions do not apply to the owner dimension.
- If the current behavior of the system does not meet the customer's needs, inform them that there are no immediate plans to change this behavior in the future roadmap, but it will be monitored for potential inclusion in future updates.
