What’s happening?
The on-hand journal creation process is taking significantly longer than usual, now exceeding 4 to 5 hours compared to the previous duration of 30 to 40 minutes.
Reason:
The slow insert times for the on-hand journal creation are likely due to database logging being enabled for all inserts, updates, and deletes on the InventJournalTrans table. This change has resulted in increased processing time related to updates on the associated indexes of the table.
Resolution:
- Review the options associated with the Inventory Journal table in the Database Log Setup.
- Consider removing database logging on the Inventory Journal table unless there is a true business need for it.
- Ensure that regular inventory maintenance routines are being executed, including the Inventory Journals Cleanup process found under Inventory > Periodic > Cleanup. This will delete the posted InventJournalTable and InventJournalTrans records, reducing the size of the InventJournalTrans table, which should improve the journal creation process's speed and consistency.
