What’s happening?
The long-term retention job for the 'Inventory Transaction' has been running for an extended period without status updates, causing concerns about the archival process.
Reason:
The job is running as a low-priority task within the application, which may lead to delays if the system is busy with other tasks. Additionally, the job may take longer than expected due to the volume of data being archived.
Resolution:
- Confirm that the setup for the long-term retention job follows the guidelines provided in the article: Set up and manage archive data in finance and operations apps - Finance & Operations | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Learn.
- Check the job status by navigating to the Workspaces section and selecting Archive with Dataverse long-term retention.
- Review the Inventory journal to see a list of long-term retention jobs and select the job to view its status.
- Under Results, select the link to view the inventory journal archive progress information.
- Select View detailed logs to examine the archive job message log, which describes the steps of the long-term retention job in detail.
- If the job has been in progress for longer than the expected timeframe of 7-14 days, consider enabling change tracking on the entity 'mserp_inventtransarchivebientity' to facilitate the completion of the sync process.
- If issues persist, gather a browser session ID where the job is running to check for any errors logged by the archival job.
