What’s happening?
Customers are inquiring whether Microsoft Graph supports Gmail, particularly in light of the deprecation of SMTP.
Reason:
The deprecation mentioned pertains to the authentication method used with Microsoft Exchange, not the SMTP protocol itself. SMTP is not being deprecated for external servers.
Resolution:
- It was explained that the deprecation does not affect SMTP, only the authentication method for Microsoft Exchange.
- Customers should ensure they have the necessary permissions to set up Microsoft Graph integration:
- Be a system administrator in the application to link the Dynamics Finance and Operations environment to Microsoft Graph.
- Be an administrator for the Azure Active Directory (Microsoft Entra) account.
- If using application permissions, the user must have a valid Exchange license, which is included with Office 365 or Microsoft 365 licenses.
- The user must also be part of the tenant while using application permissions to avoid errors such as a 404.
- For further details, refer to the documentation on configuring and sending email via Microsoft Graph.
