What's happening?
Dynamics 365 Customer Service randomly skips case numbers during automatic generation, causing confusion in tracking and invoice verification processes.
Reason:
This behavior occurs when a case record is deleted. When a case record is deleted, the system will not reuse the case number from the deleted case. This behavior is by design and not indicative of a system malfunction.
Resolution:
This is an expected behavior and not indicative of a system defect. To avoid confusion, it is recommended to:
- Avoid deleting cases if sequential numbering is critical for your processes.
