When a SharePoint site is created, by default three SharePoint groups get created... owners, members, viewers...

I wrote a flow today which can query and return the members of the owners group just fine:

But I would prefer to just do this right in Power Apps on Start, would like to get the membership into collection or variable or something.

Sure, I could call the flow and return the data, but then that will slow things down waiting.

So I played a lot today trying to get this into Power Apps. Tried using Office 365 groups... couldn't get that to work, not sure it can read SharePoint groups.

So looking to see if others on the forum have any ideas for best way to query and get this info.

If using only default connectors to achieve your need, the approach is exact what you mentioned in the post. But you could implement this feature with the help of a custom connector as well.

Please refer to below thread in which talks about an opposite scenario but basically the steps are the same within your own scenario:

Step1: get all the members through Office365Groups.ListGroupMembers().

Step2: use your custom connector to get all owners in that group.

Step3:use the owner list obtained in the step2 as a filter condition to filter the member list obtained in the step1.
