Incompatible type. column in data source you're updating expects a 'Number/Record' type and you're using 'Text'

Hi Community,

I'm struggling to complete the Collect code for a button that adds data to a SharePoint list. The list was imported to SP with 3000 rows, but I want the app to collect the searched for record, then based on 4 other dropdowns selections (number values between 1-4) update the columns in the SP list.

I am testing a Collect function, with the following code:

Collect('Course Reviews Quality 2',{'Offering Code':OfferingCode.Text,Department:Department.Text,'Offering Name':OfferingName.Text,Attendance:Attendance.Text,'Quality of Education':ddQualityOfEducation.Selected})

It seemed happy with the code up until the dropdown.

If I use 'Quality of Education':ddQualityOfEducation.Selected, I get the following error message

"Incompatible type. column in data source you're updating expects a 'Number' type and you're using 'Text'

If I use Quality of Education':ddQualityOfEducation.SelectedText, I get the same error.

 If I use Quality of Education':ddQualityOfEducation.SelectedValue, I get the following error.

"Incompatible type. column in data source you're updating expects a 'Number' type and you're using 'Error' type

Anyone know how to fix this? Or is the issue something else?

Thanks

    Hi @Anonymous ,

    You can try this,

    ddQualityOfEducation.Selected.Value

    When I do that, I get this...

    mc00515_0-1682599775838.png

    I also note from that the button contains an error pointing to the Attendance card, but I removed the value from the submit function so I don't know why...

     Here column type is expecting record type value instead of text. We need to convert this in record

    'Quality of Education': {Value: ddQualityOfEducation.Selected.Value}

    And, Attendance column type expects Number type value, make sure to add column to collection and convert to number.

    Value(attendanceInput.Text)

    Thanks for the update.

    I have attempted the adjustments (I think) as you have advised, but it's still not having it. I added the rest of the controls in as well in like manner.

    Not sure if my naming conventions are correct, moreover the correct appropriation in the formulae.  The SharePoint columns:

    Is there something I have not correctly replicated?

    This may add further clarification for you, but I'm not sure where to take this...

    But 'Attendance' is already a prepopulated number in the SharePoint list. Why is there the need to convert from Text to Value?

    @Anonymous ,

    I think your issue is that 'Quality of Education' is a number - in which case

    Collect(
     'Course Reviews Quality 2',
     {
     'Offering Code': OfferingCode.Text,
     Department: Department.Text,
     'Offering Name': OfferingName.Text,
     Attendance: Value(AttendanceInput.Text),
     'Quality of Education': Value(ddQualityOfEducation.Selected.Value),
     'Behaviours & Attitudes': ddBehavioursAttitudes.Selected.Value,
     'Personal Development': ddPersonalDevelopment.Selected.Value,
     'Overall Judgement': ddOverallJudgement.Selected.Value
     }
    )

    Also please post your code in Text - the code above is OCR'd so watch spelling.

    Hi @WarrenBelz, Thankyou for taking a look. You are correct about 'Quality of Education' being a number, but so are all the dropdowns. Therefore I made a number of amendments to those dropdowns based on your amendment to 'Quality of Education'.

    I changed 'Behaviours & Attitudes' to 'Behaviours and Attitudes' just in case it doesn't like the ampersand. Didn't make any difference however. The additional controls I added are the ones that say 'Notes'. They are Text values.

    The last change I made was to attendanceInput which is now Attendance and was accepted.

    Collect(
     'Course Reviews Quality 2',
     {
     'Offering Code': OfferingCode.Text,
     Department: Department.Text,
     'Offering Name': OfferingName.Text,
     Attendance: Value(Attendance.Text),
     'Quality of Education': Value(ddQualityOfEducation.Selected.Value),
     'Behaviours and Attitudes': Value(ddBehavioursAttitudes.Selected.Value),
     'Personal Development': Value(ddPersonalDevelopment.Selected.Value),
     'Overall Judgement': Value(ddOverallJudgement.Selected.Value),
     'Quality of Education Notes':QualityEducationNotes.Text,
     'Behaviours and Attitudes Notes':BehavioursAttitudesNotes.Text,
     'Personal Development Notes':PersonalDevelopmentNotes.Text,
     'Overall Judgement Notes':OverallJudgementNotes.Text,
     }
    )

     Power Apps keeps pointing to 4 errors, none of which really make sense to me. For the record however, here they are...

    mc00515_0-1683019768290.png

    mc00515_1-1683019823341.png

    mc00515_2-1683019967890.png

    mc00515_3-1683020177931.png

    On this last one, I don't know why it keeps pointing to a record and saying I have it as a number type. In fact it is a choi8ce type like the other 3 dropdowns

    @Anonymous ,

    For a start, get rid of the last comma after

    'Overall Judgement Notes':OverallJudgementNotes.Text

    @WarrenBelz well spotted. OK that narrows the errors down to 2.

    HI @Anonymous ,

    OK - I assume 'Behaviors and Attitudes' is a Choice column - so

    'Behaviours and Attitudes Notes': {Value: BehavioursAttitudesNotes.Text},

    I think the second error is also related to this. All of this comes down to simply matching the target fields with the same data type when patching.
