Hi,
I have read the blog by @Drrickryp https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/News-Announcements/Database-Design-Fundamentals-and-PowerApps-An-Overview/ba-p/184485 and have tried to apply the principles to my data schema for a skills matrix app. As a test I have created a bunch of tables in Excel and PowerBI seems to like them and I can return data so a good start although I am not sure I got the junction table bit right.
Scenario: 2500 staff, 300 skills / competencies. Even if each staff member only had 5 skills that would be 12500 rows.
The question is:
Hi @Fess67 :
Firstly,If you are worried about delegation issues, then you should first consider changing the data source.
The point is Excel is not delegable in powerapps.
Delegation is supported for certain tabular data sources only. If a data source supports delegation, its connector documentation outlines that support. For example, these tabular data sources are the most popular, and they support delegation:
Choosing the right data service is the first step to avoid delegation problems
Secondly, whether it can be delegated also depends on different combinations of certain operations and certain data types in different data sources. Please check these ks:
To avoid delegation issues, it is necessary to use delegationable combinations of operations and data types.
I think this link will help you a lot:

Best Regards,

Yeah sorry I did not make it clear that the excel was simply a test as it is easier to make the tables in there rather than Sharepoint. The actual tables will be made in Sharepoint lists. Thanks for the links. I think maybe delegation will not trip me up.
Is there anything else I can help?
If my answer helps or you have found an other solution, please consider marking it as a solution to help others.
Thanks for taking the time to respond to my question. The question is more about the schema as shown in the image. I am new to database design and worried that I am making something that will break because I have not structured it correctly. I get that SP lists are not the right platform however it is all I have at the moment so looking to make the best out of a bad deal.
Cheers
Maybe you can try CDS, creating a relationship can establish a connection between different entities.
Thanks again.
Yeah CDS is premium and I am living in a non premium world at the moment so Sharepoint lists it has to be.
