Issue Opening App

Hey Everyone,

I have a moderately complex app. When I open it in the online editor it can take up to 25 minutes to open, but it does always open.

I use a gallery in this app. I did not add the gallery in for a long time as I was working on the UI before connecting it to the data source. I have had no trouble opening the app and using it on my iphone and the web browser. Now I am to the point where I want to add the gallery in. The trouble is that once I added in the gallery I can no longer open the app from my iphone, the web, or the windows program. I can still open it to edit, but not to just use. I usually get a "The app didn't start correctly, try refreshing your browser" message after it runs for a half hour or so.

I removed that gallery to see if I would be able to open the app and I was. Based on this expirement I am pretty sure that the gallery is in some way preventing my app froming opening. The first gallery I put in was connected to my data source, an excel file in OneDrive, the second gallery I tested this with was the standard gallery you get from the insert tab.

I use the collect function to put data into my database and I have succesfully used that from my iphone as well as the web browser.

Has anyone experienced this issue before? Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you and I appreciate the help.

Hi, sorry for the inconvenience. I've reached out to some of my teammates to help investigate this, and will get back to you if I habve more questions.

No worries, I imagine this is in some way related to how I have things set up not Powerapps. Thanks for looking into it for me.

    Hey,

So I tried just entirely rebuilding the gallery. All different names, nothing the same as the old galelry. Now my App will open up and I can use and access the gallery no problem. I will update this thread if the issue re-arrises. For the moment though, I think it is resolved.

Glad to hear you can now open your app! If you run across this issue again, if you could capture the Session ID where you saw the crash, that would be very helpful for is to look into your issue. Thanks!

    Hey there @SpencerLynn,

So it seems that the issue has returned or I did not identify it correctly. I could really use some help. I am only having issues opening the app "live". I can always open it in the editor.

I have a baseline version of my app that works. it is essentially lots of text input fields, drop down menus, sliders, and list boxes. I use the collect function to gather all of that data into an Excel file in OneDrive. My database has 1172 columns, so my collect function is really long. I was unable to succesfully implement an edit form due to the high column count so I went the collect function route instead. I have succesfully collected all 1172 columns of data so I don't think that is where the issue lies but I thought it may be important information to have. I also have a button that collects those 1172 columns locally and then saves the data through SaveData(). I have succesfully used that and then reloaded the data with LoadData(). That is my baseline app that I can open and use on the computer and iPhone. There was no gallery in this version.

I have two different session ID's for you. I made two seperate save files of the app, one to continue working on in the mean time and one to try and pinpoint my issue.

The session ID for the version I have continued to work on is 2e86afca-8416-42a9-837a-c4f17abf0ef1. I am not sure what information you can get from a crash session ID but I thought this may be helpful.

The session ID for the version I am using to try and pinpoint the issue is e9cc1d9d-27f0-4469-a654-d9c3432fdb67. I took the baseline app I described above and added a generic gallery. I was able to open to app "live". Then I connected the gallery to my data table in Excel on OneDrive. I was again able to open the app "live". To connect the text entry fields with the existing data I had planned on using the LookUp function. I set it up so that when each record was created it also got a ReportID. This is a column in the Excel file. So I inserted an edit form and only added in the ReportID data card. I did open the app "live" succesfully once again. Then I added in a patch function I was going to use to allow the user to edit the records. It is essentially the collect function from earlier but using the correct patch syntax at the beginning instead of the collect syntax. It uses the ReportID to locate what record to patch. Once I added this patch function I was unable to open the app "live". I deleted the button containing the function and this allowed me to open the app "live" again. I added the button back and once again could not open the app. My last unsuccesful attempt after re-adding the patch button is where the session ID above comes from.

I am open to any and all advice/help. I theorize that the issue is related to how I have set up and built the whole app. I really appreciate the help here and if there is any more information I can give you to assit you in assiting me, let me know. Thanks again.

    adding @SpencerLynn in to assist.

@CoolingPowerApp do you have a Session ID where you saw the crash?

Could you give us the session IDs from some more recent sessions? We don't hold on to session information from that long ago.

    Hey @Tucker @SpencerLynn @Anonymous,

So, it has been awhile since I posted this thread. I really don't exactly remember what was going on at the time. This thread was from the end of April. I continued working at getting this app to where I wanted. Most of the facts are the same as I list out in my previous post. I actually was able to get the Patch() function to work. I got my app to work all the way through actually (besides minor issues).

Now since then we decided we wanted to add offline capabilities. As I have explained before, I am using Text boxes for data entry, a Collect() function for initial collection, a Patch() function for updating records, and I utilize the default function of the Text boxes to load preexisting values when a user would open an already existing report. The issue I have run into is that my app stopped working again while I was going through and adding another If() statement to every Text box's default function.

This is the session ID from a recent event: 2d6a0a64-4ff7-4a8f-9a12-0985392d9185

I don't know if this is exactly what you were looking for but once again my app doesn't open and I am not sure why. I would be happy to give a more thorough explanation of the app and how it works if need be. I also could talk on the phone, skype, etc. if that would be beneficial for us all. I actually have been contacted by two microsoft powerapps software engineers as well and I would be happy to talk about that and what we discussed if it would be of value. Let me know! I hope we can get this figured out.
