Error when creating Computer Use in Copilot Studio

Hi there,

I want to try the Computer Use Tool in Copilot Studio, because I have an use case that depends on this feature.
First of all: We are using Copilot Studio on a German environment and we have added Computer Use to our DLP policy as "allowed" as well as the other Copilot Studio DLP connectors.

I tried both ways that are documented:
  • When using the hosted browser function. When I try to create a connection I get a "try again later"- error, with an empty error info description

  • When we try to use the "Bring my own machine"-setting, we can register it to the Power Automate "Computer Hub"
    • In the documentation there stands the following option: "After registering the machine, turn on computer use in the machine settings."
    • This option we can't find in the machine settings, the Power Automate Version on the VM is definetly later than 2.61.132.25266.

Help is very much appreciated. Is this feature not available in Europe yet?

Greetings
Elias
(sorry for the german screenshots)

Because the machine registers successfully, the DLP policy is configured correctly, and the expected "Turn on computer use" option is missing, the evidence points

more toward a feature availability, rollout, licensing, or backend service issue rather than a configuration problem on the VM itself.

A Microsoft support engineer should be able to confirm whether Computer Use is currently enabled for your tenant and region and whether there are any known

    issues affecting the feature.

    Two things to check.
    1. Machine settings missing: the "turn on computer use" option only appears after an admin enables Computer Use at tenant level. Go to PPAC > your environment > Settings > Features and make sure Computer Use is toggled on first.

    2. Hosted browser error: Computer Use uses Anthropic's CUA model which may require data processing outside your org's geographical boundaries. For German tenants, your admin needs to explicitly enable cross-geo data processing in tenant settings. Without that, the hosted browser will fail.

    Best regards,

    Valantis

    Hi there @Valantis,

    thanks for your reply!

    1. We turned that on for that environment, see here:

    2. Do you mean, that we have to enable the Claude models for that feature to work?

The normal "data processing acress geo-boundaries"- option that we have to use for AI Builder,... to work is turned on as well:
The Claude models are blocked, since they are not within the EU Data boundary

That confirms the root cause. Computer Use is powered by Anthropic's Claude CUA model, and Claude models are not available within the EU Data Boundary.
Since your German tenant enforces EU data residency, the hosted browser feature simply cannot function the underlying model isn't accessible in your boundary.

This is not a configuration issue on your end. Everything you've done is correct. The feature itself is incompatible with EU Data Boundary tenants at this time.

    Your options are limited:

    1. Raise this with Microsoft Support as a feature request or gap report for EU Data Boundary support for Computer Use
    2. If your organization can accept data processing outside the EU for this specific workload, you could temporarily disable the EU Data Boundary restriction for testing purposes only but this has compliance implications you'd need to evaluate with your data governance team
For now, Computer Use is effectively unavailable for EU Data Boundary tenants.

    Best regards,

    Valantis

I've created a ticket with the Microsoft support. Are you sure that this feature only works with Anthropic-Models? On this page there is also 1 OpenAI-Model listed: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-copilot-studio/computer-use

Sorry, I misread the model availability info about OpenAI.

Back to your actual issue. The "turn on computer use" option is in the PAD Machine Runtime app, not in the main Power Automate Desktop editor.

    check here:

    1. Look in your system tray for the Power Automate icon (the blue swirl)
    2. Right-click it and open Machine Runtime settings
    OR
    3. Search "Power Automate machine runtime" in the Windows start menu and open it

The computer use toggle should appear there after your machine is registered, not inside the PAD flow editor.

For the hosted browser error: since your support ticket is open, ask Microsoft to specifically check whether hosted browser capacity is provisioned for your environment ID. That's a backend provisioning step on their side.

    Valantis
