Input Variable Numeric

I want to use a numeric Input Variable, however it looks like it only supports text? The documentation on the other hand says it does support numeric data type. Am I missing something?

    Have you tried to perform numeric operation on the input variable ?
    PAD will auto convert the variable to numeric if you perform numeric operation to the variable.
