PowerApp "removing" delimiters from number in calculation

Hello,

our Power App removes delimiters from a number (i.e. 13.10 or 13,10) entirely and calculates with the "full" number instead (so 1310).

We are running a Power App doing various calculations, only that the calculation is suddenly missing the delimiter only when in use and also NOT when in use through a browser but only when in use through Teams (implemented as tab) or from a Sharepoint site, and also not for all our users.

I guess that depends on some regional or user settings of Teams and Sharepoint. (Or the users computer system settings?)

I looked into formatting everything uniformly, but the problem persists.

It is now:  Text(Value(text);"#,###.#0") but instead of the "." the number displays a comma = so 250 input is 250,00 and i.e. 1,085 is rounded to 1,10. (Currency conversion) - on the back end, THIS WORKS FINE.

But for (some of our) users the app calculates 25000 * 110

Obviously, NOT fine.

Why is the format changing the dot to a comma and then ignoring it altogether?

I also tried simply using the US format "Text(Value(Amount.Text);"#,###.00";"en-US")" - but again, for some users, no delimiter at all anymore.

The output should actually be in US/UK format, so with . as delimiter, not the comma.

Also "within" the app (so looking at the intellisense/function code) the number is using the ".", while the display is using a comma - but I do not really care as long as there IS a delimiter, which goes missing when in use.

Backend: (numbers with delimiter)

Front(User) End: (full number without delimiter) (App in Teams Channel / Sharepoint Site)

KayFax_1-1626254512407.png

SAME Front End, but opened in Firefox / Edge:

The only thing I can think of is, it got something to do with settings/format, but WHAT?

And why is it correct on the back end (in programming mode) and then behaving totally different in use mode?

Thank you for your help!

    Hi @KayFax ,

Did you manage to get this fixed? I have a similar issue where one of my users is required to enter a period as a decimal separator where on my end only a comma is accepted (which should be the default in this region).

no, not really, the only "fix" is to run the apps in the browser - running the app from a SharePoint or Teams site/tab will result in the delimiter again being "ignored". I tried anything - using a text column instead of a number column, text-formatting the value, not formating the value, tried with different delimiters - still when running from Teams or SharePoint, the delimiter is ignored entirely and PowerApps interprets 13,10 or 13.10 as 1310.00 - while being correct in editing or running on a browser.

    Hello there,

I'm refreshing this post, hoping Microsoft might give us a response.

I have the same issue as you, and it's bothering the users of my app because they can't use the numeric pad to type numbers. For intense users it's a real pain and it slows down the process a lot.

To think that in the first pace, I had decided to include the app within Teams to ensure a user-friendly and stable experience...

    Hello,

thanks for reopening -  I did not yet find a solution to this problem, but meanwhile a similar problem occurred with another app - for a simple expenses input, where for some of our users - I am guessing because their phones setting is French - cannot input any delimiter for a number - the app does not accept the . or , from the keyboard as a delimiter (basically denies entry, since it is a number column) and the user has to "copy & paste" the delimiter from another text-input. It is quite a nuisance.

I also again attached a PDF to better visualize my old problem and would like to add @MarvinBangert to this thread, as a while ago I asked in a different context if he might be aware of these language / settings / delimiter issues.

Was just very busy in the last months...

    Hi @KayFax

where are your values stored? Like SharePoint List, Dataverse etc.? I will try to reproduce / have a look on this issue. At least in MS Teams it can have an impact, when you have a different language setting, that whole numbers are messed up is pretty wierd. If it is a SharePoint List etc. please also let me know about the default language and if it's dataverse, please tell me the default language of the dataverse table.

    Thanks in advance!

    Best regards
    Marvin

Hi @MarvinBangert  - thank you for taking the challenge to look into this!

Yes, data is Sharepoint List, but worth noting the environment/account was originally set up in French - we are based in Switzerland, we have three languages at the office and at the time the person registering the licenses (I guess) set up everything in French - I can see that when I go into the SP Settings, where the entire menu is still French and also i.e. formulas for calculated columns - although accepting input in English, then revert to French.

The problem with numbers on the mobile apps is also mostly for the employees that have their phone settings to French.

All settings are in the PDF I had uploaded. What is most confusing is that it is different for each user, so there must be some interference between system and personal settings...

    Thanks a lot again!

    Hi @KayFax

sorry for the delay! I tested around a bit, but unfortunately I cannot reproduce the error, probably I miss something from your configuration. Here is what I did:

    • Created a new SPO Communication Site in English and built a standalone Canvas App using a Forms connected to the List. I used number fields for most of the fields and currency for the "ComCHF" within the SP list.
    • I changed the Browser Language, Account Language, Power Apps Language and MS Teams language randomly to English (United Kingdom), French and German.
    • I could see, that the formatting changes (like sometimes a comma or a dot as thousand separator), but never did it showed this issue (in SPO as embedded Power Apps in Web Part, Browser or MS Teams (Browser and Client)). I used the Microsoft Edge Browser (Chromium; Version 104.0.1293.47).

    Here are some thoughts:

    • I don't think it's something with the local computer system settings of the user. If it would only appear within MS Teams I would say maybe, but because it also appears within SPO Power Apps Embedded Webpart and not within the Browser, I guess this shouldn't affect it. Also please check if an affected user see it's within a different brower, incognito/guest browser session and MS Teams within a browser.
    • Within the PDF document you send, we can see that it doesn't only removes the comma and dot, but the numbers are actually longer and within the browser the formatting is different:
      MarvinBangert_0-1660398001597.png

As you can see, in the studio it is shown as "1,12", "1.176,00" and "90,55". Within Teams and SPO the format changes, but it shows "11215" -> So the original value would be "1,1215" and "11775750" -> "1.177,5750". What are the original values, that are entered within the SPO List as your data source? What is the configuration within SharePoint for your columns? And what is your formatting within Power Apps for the values. I can understand the "1,12" turns into "11215", but I don't understand which formatting was used to turn the "1.177,5750" into "1.176,00".
And when the user opens the App within the Browser, the formatting is better, but still different from the studio version: "1176" is missing the format of "1.176,00" and "90,552" shows the extra 2. the VAT is a calculated value with the formular: Round(Value(If(Value(DV_ExcRate.Text)>0,DV_ComCHF.Text*7.7%,DV_ComNet.Text*7.7%)),2)
Lets remove the If() to get: Round(Value(DV_ComCHF.Text*7.7%),2) = Round(Value(1176*7.7%),2)
So the App also ignores the Round() function. You could try using the build in Power Apps Monitor, if this shows you some more information.
    • Please check again all the affected users settings for Account, Browser Language (Edge Browser) and Power Apps, if any of this is different to a user without any problems.

I will ask around in the community, if anyone else has a clue otherwise I guess the only thing could be to ask the Microsoft Support to have a remote session and check on the clients itself, what could be the problem.

Does this help you? Otherwise please give me some more information.

    Best regards
    Marvin

    Hello All,

I've had the same issue as you, only exception is I'm making the app for Power BI to visualize.
For me the language options of the browser solved the issue. (doesn't matter if you change windows or power app language) German speakers now could use the app if their browser is set to German language.

hello all with similar problems - no, I did not find a solution.

I did have Microsoft support on the line a few times looking into this, and their conclusion is indeed, it is a sort of bug in SharePoint backend.

What "solved" it for us is to switch all Teams, Browsers, Phones etc. to English system language - however, we got some employees that want to keep their mobile phones on German or French, so they cannot use the Apps with the numeric key-pad.

What they do is first typing down the number somewhere, then copy&pasting it into the App.

Not very handy, but that is their choice.

Unfortunately, our Environment was set up through a Microsoft partner in France.

There is no solution in PowerApps itself to it - it depends on the settings and user settings of where you use the Apps.
