allow searching won't toggle on for some fields

I have an app and some of the fields allow you to turn on 'allow searching'

But some of them don't.  With the fields that do not, if I click on 'allow searching', it will momentarily move to the On position and then move back to the Off position.

I have noticed that even though the form is coming from a data source, the fields within the form do not all relate to a data source.  The fields that do have a data source, 'allow searching' to the On position.  The fields that have 'none' as data source, do not 'allow searching' to the On position.

The obvious solution sounds like to ensure all the fields you want to be 'allow searching' to be tied from a data source.  However, when inserting cards from Edit Fields in the right hand side navigation properties, some of the cards seem to automatically inherit the table as the data source and others automatically inherit a data source of none.  I am quite confused. These are not custom cards, they are all cards with fields from a table in dataverse.

Any help is appreciated.

Here is what I found in the combo box documentation that may help explain your situation:

IsSearchable can be enabled only on a data source that contains at least one text field. The Items expression must be delegable for queries to be delegated with searching. That is, If statements within the Items expression are not supported.
