Using PA, auto-populate MS List column with customer names for each product that a contact is listed as a customer

Hi,

I have a SharePoint List that lists each product name and each customer contact separately, with view tabs "Customers" and "Products" to keep them displayed separately.

Customer's names are listed under the [CONTACT] column, which is a "single line of text" column. For each [CONTACT] entry, there is a "lookup" column that references the [PRODUCT NAME] column, called [CUSTOMER'S PRODUCT]. Under [CUSTOMER'S PRODUCT], the product name is chosen from the lookup column for which the contact is a customer.

The [PRODUCT NAME] column is a "single line of text" column.

I want to create a new column, called [CUSTOMERS] that automatically compiles a list of customers for each product. As in, "IF [PRODUCT NAME]=[CUSTOMER'S PRODUCT], THEN [CUSTUMERS]=[CONTACT 1]; [CONTACT 2]; [CONTACT 3]..."

Is this possible via Power Automate?

Just to summarize:

[CONTACT] = "single line of text" column

[PRODUCT NAME] = "single line of text" column

[CUSTOMER'S PRODUCT] = "lookup" column that references the [PRODUCT NAME] column

[CUSTOMERS] = IF [PRODUCT NAME]=[CUSTOMER'S PRODUCT], THEN [CUSTUMERS]=[CONTACT 1]; [CONTACT 2]; [CONTACT 3]...

Thanks for your help!

    HI @Dan32

    Before I say yes or no, I want to understand more details.

    Where is this column being stored? on the Product tables probably but its not clear.

    Is this something you want to run once, run it every day, every year, or at random whenever your coffee is horrible and you need to be distracted while you drink it, smiling at your partner for making such "wonderful" coffee for you...

    Hey @FLMike , thanks for your response!

    Correct, the customers column will be stored on the Product tables.

    Running it once a day would be great.

    Thanks again,

    Dan

    Hi @Dan32

    Sorry one other thing

    You mention that in your Customer table you have A product mapped in the lookup. But what if the customer has purchased multiple times and different products each time?

    Good question: there will never be more than one product listed per customer. My actual table contains sensitive data, so I'm using pseudonyms for the column names, but the design is identical.

    Thanks @Dan32

    that makes it much easier

    @Dan32

    Now I want to start off by saying I do not recommend using Lookups, especially when you are using it how you are. They are way to complex and annoying

    If I were to do this for you, I would simply put the Id of the Product row into a Column called Product Id in the Customers Table

    Then in the Products, I would have a comma separated list of Ids that came from parent Customer records, which makes it easy to filter, find etc.

    These lookups make it much more complex.

    Before I share what I have, are you stuck on your design or is it still flexible?

    If I have helped you, I would really appreciate if you please Mark my answer as Resolved/Answered, and give it a thumbs up, so it can help others

    Cheers

    Thank You

    Thanks @FLMike . I'm not stuck on the design, if it's not doable. If you think your way would convey the same information, without being overly complex, I would prefer it.
