Filter Question: How to Generate Immediate Filter Results vs. Clicking an "Apply Filters" button

Hello Randy,

I am working on a list maintenance app. Overall things are working, but the Filter experience isn't the best.

Here is where I am at as of Sunday afternoon:

  1. All of the filters work together okay except for the Timeline Filter which is not working at all.
  2. I must click the Apply Filters button before the gallery will filter. What I really want is for the filters to take effect automatically as soon as one or more items is selected without the need to click a button every time the user wants to apply a filter and/or refine a filter. Ultimately, I would like to do away with the Apply Filters button and only keep individual and “Reset All” filters in place.
  3. The Search box and “Assigned to Me” filters work without having to click the Apply Filters button.

I'd appreciate if you could take a look at the formulas I have attached and advise me on what I need to adjust to get the automatic, immediate filter experience I am looking for. Thank you, Teresa

Actually...I mentioned that I would go through all of this and give some responses...

However, I noticed one discrepancy out of the gate that I need your input on.  In your app, you are doing the filter based on the Apply filters (that you want to do away with), but you also are utilizing a Search Icon on the Search for Task input - do you want to do away with that as well?  I would suggest so, since you are trying to just have your results be based on whatever is input in all the filter options.  Keeping that task search icon would be relatively confusing to the user.

But...I wanted to check with you first.

    Hi Randy,

Thank you for the reply. I see what you are referring to in regards to the Search icon. I'll remove the OnSelect formula for that icon as I don't need it. I don't have to click on the Search icon to be able to search, I just start typing and the list filters automatically based on the search word. The magnifying glass is mostly there as a visual indicator of what the box is used for so I would prefer to keep it as I have this UI in all of my other apps so I think our app consumers are used to seeing it at this point. After a search term is entered, clicking on the X is what clears the search box. I would like to keep that feature as well.

I have an idea in mind that I think will resolve my issue so no need to take up your time right now. I'll let you know if I run into any unexpected snags. I really appreciate you! Have a nice day 😊 Teresa
