Hi,
I have seen some youtube videos where a DataTable is added into a layout container, but I don't seem to be able to do it. Any ideas how to do it?
Thanks
Hello @Flyingtuga2
I did try and also experience the same thing. I did find a document stating that Data Tables are not supported by Containers.
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-apps/maker/canvas-apps/controls/control-container
Moving forward, you should definitely be looking at Gallery as an alternative. Pretty much the gallery can do what Data Table does with a few tweaks and is far more customizable.
Thanks @cha_cha , I had seen a video where this worked, but it seems this has changed.
I am familiar with using gallery for table format, however way more cumbersome to create headings and align fields with headings. Any suggestions?
I was thinking of using Horizontal Gallery for each row but the problem is that a horizontal gallery doesn't support yet the variation of width, unlike the vertical one which supports the flexible height.
You might still want to have a look at it especially if you have many columns with a similar width but the main problem is that there is no horizontal scrollbar so if you have many columns, they won't see the columns.

Before adding the Datatable, add a label to the container , select the label and then add the data table. Then delete the label.
Great and simple resolution. Thanks!!
I just can't make this work anymore 😕 Maybe they have patched this on the latest recommended authoring version 😞
Why does this work? Does anyone have any idea?
It works for me but only with the following steps:
- make sure the container is selected in the form
- click on insert to open the list with controls
- instead of just clicking on the table view, click and drag the control to the container
This way it snaps into the container.
woah! this worked! I didn't know you can drag controls from the list of controls!
This solution can work, but you need to make sure that the container you want to insert to is not beneath other containers (right-click container, reorder, bring forward) otherwise the data table will end up in the wrong container. (the UI for PowerApp development is a major drain on productivity, this really needs to be sorted out)
