Changing the column data type from String to Decimal via Managed solution

We have deployed a Managed solution from DEV to Production which contains dataverse table string column, now we want to change the data type to Decimal(with same column name).

Th Attribute Manager from XrmToolbox helped to do it in DEV environment, but couldn't do the same in PROD as Attribute Manager is not listing the columns of the same table (because it is a managed solution?).

The new/changed column has the same name as previous.

I tried deploying the managed solution(taken from DEV) with option "Upgrade" assuming that dataverse will consider the "changed column" as "new column", but it is comparing the column name and concluded with below error

"Attribute XXX is a String, but a Decimal type was specified."

What should be the best approach in this scenario(any solution)?
