PowerApps - Connection to On-premises SQL error

Hi,

I installed Gateway and trying to create a new connection to On premises SQL Databases. (From PowerApps web version)

After i provide the details (SQL Server name, db name, gateway, Windows auth), i get a message saying "Adding connection" and then errors out "Something is wrong. Please try again later"

I used Chrome to access PowerApps web version

If i use IE and create connection, i dont get any success/error message after i key in all the details. The page just closes.

Thanks for assitance,

Venkatesh

    Hi venkatesh,

Could you please check the gateway status at the PowerApp web Portal? My test is OK regarding the connection creation.

In addition, follow the article below and see if we could find any gateway logs which related to the connections:

    On-premises data gateways

It seems that the management of the gateways is different between PowerApp and Power BI service, I configured the gateway when using Power BI, which need to specify the data source under Gateway settings:

    Manage Data Source

If available, please take a try to add the data source from Power BI service, which should generate the related error message if failed.

    Regards

@Anonymous, do you still have the same issue now? How about you delete all IE caches and try again?

After much trial and error - i was able to create connection.

Looks like i have to create SQL Server connection within the server where Gateway is installed. If i try to create connection from my desktop, i get same error message.

Having said that, i could not use this connection in an App, the error message simply says "The data did not load correctly, Please try again".

Needless to say - The error handling mechanism is not user friendly.

    Hi venkatesh -

Sorry to hear that you are seeing this issue.

You should be able to install a Gateway on any machine and as long as you have permission to create connections on the Gateway, you should be able to create connections from any machine - desktop, mobile or web.

Can you please confirm if you are still seeing this issue, or, if it was intermittent?

    Thanks!

    Hi Archana

My issue was resolved by using an alternate approach. Creating a connection using on-premises SQL only worked from a Win10 machine. If i try to create a connection from Win7 desktop using either IE or Chrome gave me "Data did not load correctly error".

From within Win10 machine, i had created connection using Edge browser. I have not tried using Chrome in Win10.

    Thanks

    Venkatesh
