Power Automate Desktop: desktop flow not running

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by Microsoft Employee

So I have this desktop flow in Power Automate Desktop that I want to run. The problem is when i click run, the status will changed to "downloading" and then will go back to "not running" instead of "running". I repeatedly tried to run the flow but it's just not running. I tried reinstalling the Power Automate Desktop, even deleting the folders in %localappdata% and %programdata% but still no luck of succeeding. I managed to run the flow before so I know something is wrong with Power Automate Desktop. Please help on solving this issue, I'm kind of stuck because I see no related issue like this one on this forum

    Hello @johnlouie08 .

Initially, I would suggest to install the latest version of Power Automate Desktop (v2.12), if you have not already installed it.

Some questions that could assist for finding the root cause of the issue and suggest a resolution:

    • When did this occur? What action was performed before issue was generated for the first time, e.g. upgrading Power Automate Desktop to a most recent version?
    • Is there any error generated in Power Automate Desktop or Event Viewer?
    • Is the flow executable through the designer? Through a cloud flow?
    • Please confirm that flow is not opened in a designer window (in that case the 'Run' button should be disabled).
    • Can you try to save it again with a different name (create a different instance of the flow)? Just open it in the designer and click on the 'Save as' option of File tab of the window.

    Hi @NikosMoutzou,

I have already reinstalled Power Automate Desktop using the latest version on their website, but still no success.

for your questions, this are my answers.

    • When did this occur? What action was performed before issue was generated for the first time, e.g. upgrading Power Automate Desktop to a most recent version?
      • New issue that I just experience yesterday, reinstalling the Power Automate Desktop is the only action that I try to do to fix the issue
    • Is there any error generated in Power Automate Desktop or Event Viewer?
      • No generated error. Which is wierd. what happens is that after clicking run, the status goes from "downloading" to "not running" again. The run button also returns to being clickable when it returns to "not running".
    • Is the flow executable through the designer? Through a cloud flow?
      • Yes, the flow is executable on the designer. But I don't want that because the run is slower on designer mode plus I will share this flow on other users(who experience the same issue) which will only have "user" access for this flow.
    • Please confirm that flow is not opened in a designer window (in that case the 'Run' button should be disabled).
      • Yes, the flow is not opened in designer window when I run it on the main UI of Power Automate Desktop
    • Can you try to save it again with a different name (create a different instance of the flow)? Just open it in the designer and click on the 'Save as' option of File tab of the window.
      • I have yet to try this, but will see if it works

Could you solve this problem? I have the same problem. I have a desktop flow that invokes other four desktop flows to be executed in order. If I run this flow from the designer, it runs ok. If I run this flow directly, it says "downloading" and then returns to "not executing". No error reported. I have the latest versions of Power Automate Desktop and Windows 11 23H2.
