Does anyone know if it is possible to connect to Sign in to Azure AD from PowerApps and using the token from Azure AD to Authenticate against SharePoint?

Hi @MikeTang,

Actually I think PowerApps Studio is using the token to access all the available connections, such as OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online and Office 365 Outlook.

I will explain how PowerApps work with the data sources. Hope this would make it clear.

For now, PowerApps uses connections to work with data source. For different data source, such as SharePoint, OneDrive or SQL Server, and other online services, the authentication information would be kept in the connection 'object'.

If you have signed in PowerApps with the Office 365 Account, when adding new connections for the data source which are involved in the Office 365 plan, it will not need to enter the authentication information again under PowerApps studio.

Besides, if multiple authentication infomartion have been added, it will then require you to choose one.

Hi,

I forgot to mention that I am using a custom API in the middle. So I connect to Azure AD in PowerApps then use the token to connect to a custom WebAPI then continue using that token to connect to Sharepoint and manipulate a list to display in PowerApps.

That depends on how you would like to connect to SharePoint.

If the connection is through Web API, which means the SharePoint data would be queried by the Web API, and not by PowerApps, then you need to define the authentication method in the API Swagger definition.

Register custom APIs in PowerApps

Refer to the authentication part mentioned in the article above.

If SharePoint data is queried through PowerApps directly, what we need is to add another data source:

Add a data connection in PowerApps

And this won't need to enter the authentication information, only a few clicks would make it available.

But if we need to open powerapp in provider hosted add-in?
then to login to powerapp if we can use Azure AD authentication
and SP is also configured with Azure AD authentication..

then, Basically is that possible?

I lost a lot of work due to this bug. I have a developers account and a personal account as well as a work account. When working in PowerApps trying to connect to Azure SQL database I am asked over and over to authenticate. Then it fails, then I lose the work even though the app was saved and should auto save. Not sure what's going on but inability to use various logins is a real issue for most of us who work across domains.
