Hope you're doing well. Thanks for your attention to this post.

Scenario:

We are developing a Canvas Application. We are leveraging a Component Library. Both the canvas app and the component library are using the Preview Feature to call SQL Stored Procedure directly from the app and we are also using the Modern Controls.

Issue:

Whenever we publish a new version of the component library and update the components in the canvas app, the app takes too long to load the updated components. It sometimes takes up to 4 hours. After updating the components, when we try to save the canvas app, the saving behaves the same and sometimes takes hours before it saves.

If anyone has experienced this or knows the solution to this. Please let me know.

I am experiencing the same issue. If I strip down my app to bare minimum with small number of controls, it updates but with a large app I have left it running for half a day and it never completes. There is nothing stated to indicate that updates would not work for apps with more than X number of controls.

I guess as part of the update it has to do a "search and replace" across the whole project to make necessary changes but there is no indication of progress achieved or if it is failing at the same spot or is continuing. This is a very poor experience.

I think I have figured out the cause of this - at least to the circumstances of my issue.

My problem is caused by the "New analysis engine" - which was enabled under the Updates -> New section in the Settings page.

With that turned off, the component library is updated in less than a minute. When that is turned on, the update never completes.

However, I stripped down my app to a couple of screens and tried and although it took a long time (10s of minutes), it did nevertheless complete.

So, looks like this "New analysis engine" (which ironically says brings "improved authoring performance") is causing an O(2^n) effect on component updates. It also impacted pastes which takes a lot longer to complete than with this setting disabled.

We ended up moving all our components from Component Library to the Canvas App for faster development.

'New Analysis Engine' was the culprit for me too. A minor update in a component library was accepted OK by several apps that use it (and which are set to New Analysis Engine), except for one. Eventually got that one to accept the update by turning off its New Analysis Engine option.
