Dropdown Value Won't Add to Record on Tick

Hi Guys, I have a simple app that I would like to record hours worked at clients. When I build the app based on my Excel table, the 'client code' field works fine while it's a simple text field, and will update along with all the other fields as it should. I would like the client code field to be a dropdown based on another Excel table however, so it uses that as validation.

I have managed to change the text field to a drop down of the client codes based on that client table, but it won't register the value when I attempt to add a record, so I've not done it properly.

I have recorded a video that showcases the way I've done things which will hopefully be of benefit.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Have a look at the Update property of the card that contains your Customer ID code (the same one you use in your dropdown). To work properly, it should show something similar to: Dropdown1.Selected.Value

Hi There,

I tried changing it to Dropdown1.Selected.Value but it still comes up with an error - "Name isn't valid. This identifier isn't recognized."

I'm guessing I haven't chosen the correct dropdown number but don't know how to determine the correct one. I tried 6 as this was the number of the original DataCardValue6.text before I changed it to a dropdown, but I imagine the number is based on how many dropdowns there are.. I also tried 10 as I saw DatacardValue10 somewhere but that didn't work. I don't know how to work it out.

"Name isn't valid. This identifier isn't recognized." means your dropdown control has a different name associated with it.

In the Power Apps editing canvas, click on the control Tree View on the left hand side of the window. Then, click on your dropdown. The dropdown's identifier should now be highlighted for you. Use that name (and let the intelligent autocomplete feature help you) and make sure .Selected.Value are at the end of it.

It does seem like the name is correct. I've followed your instructions by clicking the dropdown and it's the same name as used in the update field.

Could it be because I'm using two different tables? One to pull the values from, and one to insert those values?

The error you are seeing is related to how we are referencing the control, not the data in the tables. The video ended quickly, but it appears it is having a problem with the .Value part. Try deleting that off and see if you get different behavior.

Thanks, I deleted .value and still error, then deleted .selected and retyped.. I saw that I had the option to put ClientCode in where .value was. Have tested, it works! 🙂
