Child flow with "when new response submitted" as trigger

I have a parent flow where I am sending mails by getting mail IDs from email column of 1st SharePoint list. The content of the email is a Microsoft form link.

The child flow has "when new response submitted" as it's trigger and it creates an item from the form response in a 2nd SharePoint list.

But I am getting error in this method as I am not able to use "when new response submitted" as main trigger for child flow. Please help.

Hey @S18 you need to create an instant flow and have a manual trigger, and then create fields for what you want to pass from the parent flow to the child.

But I would like the child flow to be triggered whenever a new response is submitted through the Microsoft form.

Hi, then it is by definition not a child flow.  It is a flow in it's own right that cannot be called from a parent flow.

See the documentation around Child Flows - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-automate/create-child-flows

Is there a way by which the main flow and the flow storing the form responses be connected?

Agreed it has to be a manually triggered flow.  If you need to pass info from the parent flow, add that in as a variable field in the manual flow and then pass the ResponseID into that field.

Re: Child flow with "when new response submitted" as trigger

Child flows must be an instant cloud flow in order for them to be called by another flow. In addition, all of the flows must be within a solution. Child flows are not triggered but called through the Run a Child Flow action. For example:

You will only see child flows listed in the drop-down if they meet the criteria I mentioned: must be an instant cloud flow and within a solution.

Another option would be to use the When an HTTP request is received action. This is a premium action and requires the appropriate licensing to use. You can learn more about this at When an HTTP request is received built-in connector - Training | Microsoft Learn,

Re: Child flow with "when new response submitted" as trigger

You can do that, but your trigger needs to be When a new forms response is submitted. You can then use the Run a child flow action to call the child flow.
