Report on views and viewers for SharePoint files

Hi,

I'd like to create a report (e.g. writing to an Excel spreadsheet) on a daily basis how many people viewed a certain file on SharePoint.

I started with a scheduled task but I struggle receiving the view and viewer numbers from an SharePoint file. Anyone done this before or any ideas?

Thanks,

thomas

    Hi Alice,

tahnks for the quick response. SharePoint Online does save this information somewhere -- when I click a file on SharePoint Online it shows me the number of viewers and views. Not sure though if this is technically a "column" or some other meta-data.

Waht would be the best way to find out? Is there a way to output all colums of a specific file?

    Thanks,

    thomas

    Hi @Luns,

Does the sharepoint library have a column to save the view and viewer numbers?

If the view and viewer numbers would be saved in a column in the sharepoint library, you could get the column values for each file and save it in the excel table.

If you don't have a a column in the sharepoint library to save the view and viewer numbers, the viewer number wouldn't be saved in the sharepoint currently, and I afraid that your requirement couldn't be achieved.

    Best regards,

    Alice
