I created a Word docx from blank and added a PLAIN text control from the developer tab in accordance with Microsoft's instructions at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/connectors/wordonlinebusiness/#populate-a-microsoft-word-template. and stored it in a SharePoint site.
When creating my flow, I add the "Populate a Microsoft Word Template" connector. I am able to successfully find and select the Word doc I created earlier, but I the error "Failed to get dynamic schema". Power automate does not recognize the controls that I created in the Word doc - the names of the controls should be showing up under the "file" textbox. Screenshot follows of error. I can't find anything about this error anywhere!!!
Thanks in advance!
Hi @Mattshaff
Can you please try to store the document in OneDrive instead of SharePoint? The Plain texts look fine so I just want to confirm if from OneDrive the error message is the same.
Best Regards

I believe it's because you selected the incorrect control. There are two "Aa" buttons under the Developer tab to insert content controls. The first one is for Rich Text, the second if for Plain Text. You want the Plain Text option. I just tested out both in a new doc and the Rich Text doesn't show up but the Plain Text one does. Hope that helps.
thanks for the replies!
1. I tried it with the Word doc in OneDrive instead of SharePoint - same result.
2. I used the PLAIN text control for sure.
Sounds like I may need a support request!
any other ideas?
thanks!
Hi @Mattshaff ,
You just need to use "HTML to Text" then display the output of this in your Word field

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! I stumbled on the solution after a lot of trial and error - created a new Word doc and it worked. Not sure why. My original Word doc did indeed use the supported PLAIN text control.
thanks for the support!
