Hi All,
I'm very new to PowerApps, Power Automate, etc. but have done SharePoint Admin work off and on going back WSS 3.0. I'm building out some prototypes in PowerApps. I'm looking for a reality check on whether the concepts in my scenario is possible, and if so, some pointers to articles/tutorials where I can learn more about these concepts would be helpful - even just PowerApps terminology to make more effective Google searches would be a help.
Scenario: we have an Excel template with multiple tabs of resources that our PMs can use for launching & managing our projects. We are management consulting and the PM needs vary quite a bit by project, so flexibility is important.
I'll say 3 of these tabs are basically forms, static content. In the other 8 tabs, the flexibility of Excel is great, as individual PMs may need to add columns, change column headings to better fit their project, add rows, etc. The reason to move to PowerApps is to create more of a system, more visibility and accountability in the usage of the tool, and also get real data on what tabs people use. Building in some simple email alerts and workflows would be a nice benefit as well. PowerApps will work for the three static tabs that can be easily converted to forms. Weaving in the other 8 tabs are the challenge that I'm investigating.
I'm trying to determine if something like this is achievable:
1. In PowerApps, PM fills out forms to capture data for the 3 tabs that are static content.
2. Upon submit, a new instance of the Excel PM template is created, with all 11 tabs.
3. The data input via PowerApps gets added to the appropriate fields in the 3 tabs in the Excel PM template
4. The other 8 tabs of the template don't contain any data.
5. The user can then download the template from the document library, make changes to the other tabs through Excel, and save back to the document library.
Any nudges appreciated.
Thanks!
