Getting SQL Table data from MVC Web API Without Flow

A project requires a PowerApp to hook up to an MVC API that handles requests from an Azure SQL Database. My initial thinking was to load all SQL Table data into different collections on the PowerApp startup so that i can display and edit the relevant data. This would require a call for each table in the database which i was planning to achieve with MS Flow, but since the client may have many employees, it would start to get expensive with the countless amount of flows being ran.

Is there an alternative method to connecting to an MVC Web API in my case? (GET and POST data to a SQL table). Maybe a data source that will allow calls to be made within PowerApps itself?

Thanks.

    Hi @ajennings1

    Just going back a step, is there any reason why you can't connect your app directly to the Azure SQL database? For example, do you not have direct access, or are there security concerns?

    @timl,

    Sorry forgot to mention this. Yes it's for security reasons.

    Hi @ajennings1 ,

    Do you want to connect with a web API?

    I suggest you create a custom connector for a web API.

    Here's a doc about it for your reference:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/connectors/custom-connectors/create-web-api-connector

    Then, you could register and call the API from PowerApps or Azure Logic Apps.

    @v-yutliu-msft,

    I've tried creating custom connectors but keep getting a 500 error saying 'Unable to connect to remote server' even though I can access the API data via browser.

    Are there any reasons why PowerApps can't access this localhost? The API is running in VS when i try and the 500 error still appears.

    Thanks.
