Hi Team,

We are building a powerapps application which uses sharepoint lists for storing data. There are multiple forms in the app which are connected to the sharepoint list .The main list has more than 30 columns and almost which 20 columns are choice type.

We are facing considerable performance delay when patching the data to the SP list and also while retrieving the data .

I have the following questions:

1. Is the performance affected due to large number of columns in the main list?

2. Is it due to there are more than 300 records in the list?

3. Are the choice columns increasing the delay of submitting and retrieving data ?(if so shall we convert all choice columns to text type in sharepoint and use patch function in powerapps to patch the dropdown data to these text columns? Is it efficient?)

4.Will breaking the SP list to multiple lists affect the performance positively or negatively?

Please help me ..

Please find my suggestions.

1. Is the performance affected due to large number of columns in the main list?
30 columns should not create any issue, however select only the columns that are necessary for the app.To turn on the explicit column selection feature on the canvas app, go to Settings > Upcoming features > Preview, and then turn on the Explicit column selection toggle.

2. Is it due to there are more than 300 records in the list?

Not at all.

Yes, It is advisable to not to use too many lookup columns. if you are using too many people picker /dynamic lookup, it takes time. Try to reduce and replace with the plain text field. Have those choice controls in the form .

4.Will breaking the SP list to multiple lists affect the performance positively or negatively?
May not help

Apart from that , try not to update data on change .
Use collection, to store the changes and at the end push all the changes with one patch.
