Editing nonvisible field for an edit form

Hi,

I have an edit form where I also want to edit a field non-visible to the user. For example, I want to say set ThisItem.ApprovedBy to User().Email, so I can't use submitForm as this field is not available to edit on the form screen.

I tried thinking something like this:

Patch('DATA', Defaults('DATA'), {ApprovedBy: User().Email}, Form.Updates);

However, it did not seem to update my fields (for example my dropdown field). Anyone know any work arounds?

You are incorrect that you cannot use SubmitForm(). To add data to the underlying dataset, the card must be present in the form but it doesn't have to be visible. Hidden cards can make it difficult to properly position cards on the form , so I recommend putting them at the bottom of the form.

FYI, There is only one important item in an edit form card and that is the Update property of the card. Add the card for your ApprovedBy field, open its Update property and delete the text, replacing it with User().Email then hide the card. It will work even if no one can see it. There is no need for a patch.
