How to select multiple check boxes and save/apply to use as filter for gallery that is populated by sharepoint list?

I have created multiple filter options in a powerapp where the user can select/check multiple boxes to filter by.  All of these items are saved in a sharepoint list and polpulates the gallery for each item on the sharepoint list. I added a button to the dialog box with the hope of using that to apply/save all the slections to filter by.   When I check multiple boxes for a give filter, those items are saved or at least populate to a collection list. How ever, i want the appy but on save and when I try htat the following error pops up: Title: Field 'title' is required.

The formula currently set for apply button is: OnSelect = SubmitForm(FormName)

Ultimately I want the user to be able to select multiple filter items that in turn wil filter the entire gallery of items.

This is implying that you are not providing a Title column value which would be required by your list.

So are you trying to write this to a particular record?  Does it already exist?

Quite honestly in this case, I would skip the EditForm for what you are doing.  I usually almost always recommend a form to use, but in this case you are using a Gallery in the form and then creating a collection off of it...this is way more work than you need to do.  And, since you have all of this in one datacard, you are not really getting any particular advantage from the form.  PLUS...if you try to do anything off of the Gallery in that datacard, you will run into a bug that has existed for a long time regarding galleries in a form.

So...you might want to consider just a simple Gallery with a checkbox and then utilize the Patch function to create/update a record.

Of course, I am always one to over complicate.  So, whatI hear yousaying is to keep my gallery with checkboxes and remove the underlying form? will that maintain my look?  As it works now when you click on filters, the filter side bar opens.  The once you click on the box to left of th filter title the modal opens up whree I have the multi slect check boxes.

Yes, number one rule in PowerApps...Keep It Super Simple!!

There will be some changes to some of your controls that reference items, but for the most part, it would all work the same.

However...the REAL question is...where is all of this going?  To a specific record in your datasource or to something else?  *Usually* when you want to save settings that are user specific, you would have some record with the User identified in it in your datasource and then bring that into the app.  Your checkbox selections would then need to know the "name" of what they refer to in the datasource record (to re-show them later).  And, your Apply button would simply be about patching the record from the datasource with the new check changes.

NOTE: If you load the record into your app when you start, then it will be blank (and more importantly, it will have a blank ID).  When you go to Patch that datasource with that record, Patch will see that you have a blank ID and will create the record for you. Or, if it did get a record, it would have an ID and thus Patch would update the record.

So I removed form and updated controls to open and close modal as before with just the gallery of check boxes.

The goal is to have the userselect all the differnt filtes to then filter the main gallery with has all these datpoint within a single sharepoint list.  I have not set up where the user logins in. Nor have i set up any connections to have these selected fitler options applied.

Would first step be to establish a record to be creted for each user that logs into this app?

Yes, you're going to need some place to save and load these selections from.

We typically use a list called AppSettings (or any name you like) that would have the User Email in the Title column and then any options to store.

NOW...that second part is the secret sauce.  Usually you will have a LOT of options you want to store.  As I see from your screen, you have a number of filter options for each category.  So, creating a column in your list for each option is messy because you will inevitably want to change them or add/delete some in the future.

In that case, we typically will have in the list, one column (Title) for the User Email and One for options that is just a text column.  IN that column we would store a separated list of all the options.  (We also share that options list with a lot of apps, so, we also put an App Name column in the list so that we can store options for lots of apps - but this is not needed, so mentioning for the future for you.)

Then, in the app, we pull that record with a lookup for the user email address, and then split the options column values to use throughout the app.
