Using next available row in excel

Hi All,

I am using Excel as a datasource and i am creating an app to update it, some of my coworkers like the excel sheet and dont want to use power apps but some do so i need both the excel sheet and app to both update the excel sheet at the same time.

My excel sheet has about 50000 rows and is formatted as a table, when my powerapp saves to excel it adds a new row at the bottom instead of taking the next available row in the table which would be around the 27000 row, i am saving with submitform,

is there a way of achieving this ?.

thanks guys

    Hi @Edymac1 ,

Firstly, a 50,000 row Excel file as a data source for Power Apps is probably not a good idea anyway (it is a terrible data source for Power Apps), however to answer your question, an Excel sheet cannot be open directly at the same time it is in use by Power Apps and anything added outside Power Apps will not be visible to Power Apps.

    Thanks @WarrenBelz,

I dont particullarly want to use Excel but convincing my co-workers not to use it couldbe an issue as they are stuck in their ways and a bit stubborn, i will just have to try to convince them to use the Power App and use SP as the datasource.

    Thanks again Warren

    HI @Edymac1 ,

You might send your colleagues a link to this video form Shane Young - he is actually being quite diplomatic about Excel. Things that should work simply do not and honestly 50k rows is not tenable in Excel - it is not a Database. SharePoint will generally do the job if you do not want to incur additional licencing costs.
