Looking for your feedback on structuring DLP policy

Hello,

We have adopted Power Platform not a long time ago and have developed a single business application so far. I have been able to successfully create a DLP policy for the environment hosting this business application but as we begin to roll out Power Platform to other makers, I was thinking about creating a global DLP policy.

After running several scenarios to understand DLP policies, I have come to the conclusion that it is best to apply a single DLP policy (either a global policy or environment specific policy) on any environment at a given time. If the global policy doesn't allow a particular connector (which could be listed as non-business) to be used with other connectors (listed in Business data group), it is best to exclude that environment from the global policy and create an environment specific policy (tenant-level).

The reason I have listed tenant-level policy type above is that I have got the 'Power Platform Administrator' role assigned to my account. With this role, my understanding is that I cannot create an environment-level policy type.

Any feedback on my approach will be highly appreciated.

    Hi @rameezali

I have worked with several clients implementing DLP policies for the Power Platform.  Your approach above sounds sensible.  One thing to note is that your global / default policy should have it's Scope set to Exclude certain environments as this enables you to easily exclude environments if they need to have a different policy and when new environments are created, they are automatically added to this policy.

I've written a blog post about the topic of approaching DLP policies here...

    Appreciate your response, HSheild.

This is exactly what I was planning to do. Create one global policy and exclude environment as needed.

Anyone else who would like to share their experience?

    Hi,

Also relatively new to setting up governance etc around Power Platform. The approach I took was very similar to what you described:

1 Default Policy with exclude environments, this one only has the basic connectors for Office etc for productivity in business, a few in non-business and everything else in blocked and applies to default and Teams environments

1 Production Policy for other environments to allow premium connectors etc.

1 Developer policy which I can apply to developer environments for trusted individuals, a little more relaxed than production to allow for experimentation etc.

1 Block for all environments for those connectors we never want anyone to ever use. This policy all connectors are in Business except those we don't want which go in Blocked.

So far seems to be working for us, but we are just starting our journey.
