Only distinct values in gallery

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to add a new feature to my app, hope you guys can help. My datasource is static data from excel.

In my database, I have a column for the name of the employee, another for their company role, and several other columns with other info. The employee's name and company role repeat several times according to the information in the other columns. In my app, I want a gallery to show the name of the employee and their company role, without this info repeating.

Lastly, I need a filter that once I choose the company role, the gallery will show me all the employees' names.

Is there a specific reason for this to be in Excel? Would be better to store it in SharePoint.

I chose excel because of the row limit. also my app will be only for consultation, so since it’s a large database and it won’t be changed, it made sense

I'm not sure who advised excel to you for a large database, but its the least delegable option of PowerApps datasources as far as I know and has the same ceiling of 2k items without delegation that any of the delegable sources like sharepoint would have.

Really there aren't any situations I can think of where Excel would make sense as the datasource compared to the other options available.

“Up to 15000 records can be retrieved as a single static excel file but the data cannot be modified” according to microsoft power apps community. Like I said, since it’s a basic app for consultation, this type of data source makes the most sense.

Ah ok thats for setting it up as a static file, i was thinking of using just as a datasource.

Not sure if distinct works with that or not, havent tried. I know @Drrickryp  is familiar with the process of using static excel files maybe he can pop in and advise?

Just to test this out while we waited i loaded in a static table from excel via the Add Static Excel connector, and it worked fine. I had only 2 columns in my table, one with names that would be repeating and one with numbers for QTY that may or may not repeat. My first gallery i gave the items property of

    Distinct(Table1,QTY)

which gave me a gallery that contained only the distinct QTY's that appeared in my table and in second gallery I put

    Filter(Table1, QTY=Gallery2.Selected.Value)

which returned every record that had a QTY value attached to it that i selected in the first gallery.
