Problem with text variable

I have a variable with a numerical value of 846.7 and I convert it from number to text but when I do that conversion it removes the dot and leaves me the number 8467. How can I create a text variable or convert it from number to text and keep the format 846.7?

What action are you using to convert. There are actually a few different ways to do that conversion.

One is an implied conversion. Set a text variable equal to something like %numOriginal + ''%. Using a plus sign with a string will trigger the implied conversion.

Another is the action under the Text section called Convert Number to String in which case you can specify the number of digits after the decimal to keep and whether to use a thousands separator.

My guess is that you are using the Recognize entities in text action and only pulling numeric characters out.

Are you regionally in a place where . represents thousands, millions, etc.

For the US: 846,700 for instance would ignore the , and just be 846700. I wonder if that is what is going on. If so, you may need to replace . with , before converting or something to that effect.

This is a common thing in PAD, where it is tricky to work properly with regional settings. In some funky cases, I've even seen the variable pane actually showing a numeric value as 2.000000, but then after double-clicking the same value, it was actually 2,000000 in the preview.

I recommend using Replace text to replace the dot with a comma before using Convert text to number. If that doesn't work, do the opposite - replace a comma with a dot (I know this seems counter-intuitive, if your variable has a dot in there already, but try it.). If that also doesn't work, try doing both - first replace the dot, and then do the opposite. Do some trial and error experimentation until you find the correct sequence that works for you.
