Hi,

I have a simple workflow that needs to get 1 approval. If the response to the approval is returned, the requestor should have the ability to edit the request and submit again. I used the trigger When an Item is Created or Modified... however, I also have steps in the workflow that set the status of the request. It seems that every time the status is updated the workflow restarts. It should not restart unless if the requestor is editing and resubmitting. How can i fix this?

Reason is simple, you are editing the same list item in the flow which would cause it to get triggered again 🙂

So i need to get more information, so you are updating the status after getting approval. So what is its value?

Also you said that requester should modify and submit it again and then only it should trigger, is there any specific value within status which requester should edit to start the process /flow ?

Hi,
When the requestor submits the request, the status is updated to submitted.
When the approval gets sent to the team, the status is updated to in process.
When the approval response is obtained [either complete, rejected, or returned] then the status gets set to either [Completed, Rejected, Returned]
The requestor receives an email with that approval response at last.
When the request is returned to the requestor, it generally means that they have to provide additional information which could be in the form of an attachment or fill out any missing fields/correcting the fields. There is no set field that they will be modifying upon return.
The status of the request would be "returned" when the requestor would need to modify the request.

So you meant flow should only trigger when requester is setting status field as returned in list item which is being modfiied right ?

if yes you have to use a trigger condition within the trigger which trigger the flow only when the condition is satisfied.

Hi,

The workflow must trigger when the request is submitted. The workflow should then only trigger on modify if the request status is returned.
