How can I customized error message text in datacard in edit form?

Hello,

I have connected required fields of SharePoint list with Editform which currently displays default error messages, how can I change it?

Although I have tried changing the ERror message text, which actually worked out for one action, however I assume it is not a best practice, It seems its impacting many other actions and also not working as expected on submit actions.

Can you please share whether it's advised to change the error message of Editform datacard? If yes, what is the best practice and how can I do it?

Thanks and Regards,

    Hi @dave8 ,

Are you talking about managing required fields? If so, you can certainly manage these and any other things you want to control on the save function with If statements on what is the content of the control. I actually delete all error and required controls from the cards and manage them in Power Apps.

If you can be more specific with what you are trying to achieve, I can elaborate further.

    Hi @WarrenBelz ,

Actually yes, for required field, or any other message that gets displayed on datacard below the control.

However, sometimes, if there could be different error too for example, excel file is locked down by som, eone else if there is an excel connector, basically any of the errors which are displayed in below link as ErrorKind

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/functions/function-errors

I assume we can not catch those eerrors in PowerApps, and hence thought of restricting at SharePoint list, but it has different concern of changing error message text.

My main objective is how can I catch any error that PowerApps disaplys? and change the text of it? Is it even possible?

    Thanks,

    Hi @dave8 ,

Firstly, you might look at the IfError function, which can display Notify banners.

Moving on to what you are trying to achieve with datacard level messages, I am wondering what errors you would expect at individual field level other than required content. For instance a conflict in the current record being written (another user has changed it since loaded) is a red banner at the top and my users know that one and refresh and reinput.

This is my opinion only, but you should be able to more effectively manage compulsory fields on save with a combination of Notify banners, Variables causing colour changes to borders and fills and SetFocus commands, which should get the message clearly to users.
