Environment Strategy - doubt about Environment Type

Hello,

in relation to the guidelines for establishing an Environment Strategy as per below article:

suggesting to create dedicated Dev\Test\Prd environments, for example for specific Project or Critical Application, I was wondering which type of envrioment we should select in particular for environments associated to Dev and Test Projects/Critical Applications.

Having only [Sandbox\Trial\Production] as available options when creating a new environment from the Admin console I expect all those environments should be created as PRODUCTION type environment.

Is my assumption correct ?

I believe sandpit is the environment to chose as they allow a reset, which is useful for development environments. If you create a dev environment as a production environment, you will need to change your DLP policies and possible security model

Reading better info about Sandbox environment I expect therefore the following Environments configuration would be acceptable (assuming to have shared De\TEst\Prd environments for normal projects a dedicated ones for a critical one) .
What do you think?

This is how I'm structuring my environments, I'm not aware of any pitfalls currently!

Hi @AppPitotti, @Preachman85,
The main differences with a Production type are:
you can perform less administrative tasks, like reset, delete, etc whereas in a Sandbox you can.
Sandbox and Production used to have the same performance, but Microsoft has confirmed that a Production environment is now configured to performed better
I believe Microsoft support tickets can only be opened regarding a production instance as well
In short, there's no right/wrong way for your downstream environments except that Prod is obviously Production type and don't create CDS environments in the Default environment. If you're not planning on resetting your environments at regular basis then go for Production type. You can always change the configuration from Prod to Sandbox (and vice-versa) later.
