SharePoint List Title - Patch

Hey there,

I have a Forms on Power Apps with a Patch button that's connected a SharePoint List. I'm pretty new to both apps, and I was wondering what the Title column was, the very first column with all its items appearing in bold ?

I have an issue wit hthe patch function I have connected a Name field in the forms to the first column, Title, of the Sharepoint list. But the system is indicating me that there is an error, and that column is generated by the server. Can we or not connec tthe first column to the forms ?

Thanks in advance for your reply

    Hello @Cherryl .
Indeed you can connect the First column to the form in PowerApps. But ensure that you have not changed the name of the First column, you can just leave it as "Title", this makes it easier to identify when using the column in PowerApps.

You also mentioned that "I have connected a Name field in the forms to the first column, Title, of the Sharepoint" can you share a screenhsot of what you mean ?

Also, are you patching with the "name" or "title" in your patch code ?

    Hi @Cherryl,

'Title' is a default generated text column within your SharePoint list. In case you do not want to use this column within your Form, you can remove that DataCard from your form and set the Title column to not required in your SharePoint list (see this topic).

In case you renamed the Title column and reference that in your Form, make sure the DataCard 'Default' property is not still referencing 'ThisItem.Title' but rather ThisItem.'NewName (Title)'. However, I would avoid renaming created columns as much as possible.

Additionally, certain column values are automatically generated by the server - think of ID, Created By... These cannot be manually populated within your Patch statement.

Note: Unless there is a specific requirement to add data / values outside of your form as well, you may want to use SubmitForm instead of a custom Patch function.

If this solves your question, would you be so kind as to accept it as a solution & give it a thumbs up.

    Thanks!

    Hi @Shalom_Oguntolu ,

Sorry, my bad, I got confused with my own list TT.

In fact, I wanted the Title column to contain the names. But since, Power Apps is indicating me that I can't modify the Title column, the one in the screenshot:

I created a separate Name column beside the title column since when I use the title one, it doen't function (doesn't patch).

I wanted to patch the title column, but since it doesn't function, I created a separate "Name" column. I thought it had something to do with the Title column being the first one, like its items are in bold, and so, the forms in power apps just can't edit that column ?

    Hi @LaurensM ,

Oh, okay thanks I understand better now. So, I think I'm just going to remove it, and all I have to do is select "Not required" to the first column ? But, where do I do that ?

    Hi @Cherryl,

You can set the Title field to non-required within your SharePoint List settings. (gear icon in the upper-right corner)

The following comment provides more info on the specific steps.

    I hope this helps!
