Press button on web page "Button with selector not found

Hi all, I am new to PAD and have an issue: I record a process on a website to configure some drop downs and then press a button. It all worked while I was recording, but I get an error when I run the Flow when it gets to this Action.

paulwestgate_0-1666735816988.png

Error message: Button with selector 'div[Id="querycontainer"] > div:eq(1) > div[Class="pull-right"] > button[Class="btn btn-white btn-sm btn-success"][Type="submit"]' not found.

When I edit the action it shows the correct button (UI element):

I have the latest version of PAD. I have tried this in Edge and Chrome with the same result.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

    Got to the UI element section and open the selectors of that button.

    Tick only these and untick all the others.

    button[Class="btn btn-white btn-sm btn-success"][Type="submit"]'

    Additionally, find out the selector which says "Search" and tick that one too.

    If still issues you need to play around a bit by ticking/unticking the right options.

    Thanks for the response VJR. I am not quite sure where the selectors are (or how to open the selectors for the button), this is what I see when I edit the "Press button on web page" action:

    I select the UI element but still get the same Error response.

    Hi VJR, so I did a bit of digging and see where the selectors are (sorry still new at this). I have made the changes as suggested but am still getting the same error.  Thanks

    Is the search button always present on the page or does it appear after certain values are filled out, such as setting the dropdown? Can you share the entire selector of the dropdown and the search button? (by going to the UI element, double-clicking and enabling "Text editor" in top-right and copy/pasting the values you see there)

    Hi Matt, thanks for responding.

    The Search button only appears in a "Queries" section that expands like an accordion, after I press a filter icon button  at the top of the page (although it shows as a Click link on web page in the flow)

    paulwestgate_0-1666823700839.png

    The Queries section opens which reveals the dropdowns, checkboxes and the Search button.

    The strange thing is that when I manually Run each step, this Queries section opens but still gives the error that the Button cannot be found, even though I can see it on the page (screenshot above).

    When I recorded the process it all worked and recognized and recorded the Search Button. I did notice however that when I run the complete flow, when it gets to that step/action the Queries section is minimized in the browser:

    Not sure if that has any bearing?

    Thanks

    Hi Matt

    Here is the text from the Drop Down:

    div[Id="querycontainer"] > div:eq(1) > div:eq(1) > div[Class="tab-pane active"] > fieldset[Class="alsformsection "] > div[Class="row"] > div[Class="col-xs-12 col-sm-6 col-md-4 col-lg-4"]:eq(0) > div:eq(0) > select[Class="width-100"]

    And here is the text from the Search button:

    div[Id="querycontainer"] > div:eq(1) > div[Class="pull-right"] > button[Class="btn btn-white btn-sm btn-success"][Type="submit"]

    Thanks

    Paul

    Yep - it being minimized is most likely the issue on why it can't find the button and I wonder if that could be due to the way the filter window is developed, and if there's some sort of unhover or blur event that causes it to go away during RPA execution. Does that happen right after you set the dropdown value? Also, I noticed in your screenshot where it's minimized that the query showing below doesn't appear to have the Active filter in it - have you confirmed that value is getting set correctly? If your Active filter is getting set correctly I have 2 suggestions that should hopefully help:

    1. Click the search icon on the top row next to the filter instead of the one in the filter window - I'm assuming it honors whatever has been set in the filters and if you have your Active status, you should be good to go

    2. If the filter closes after you set the dropdown, and you need to click that specific search button, you could add a step to click the filter button again after it closes and/or use an 'if web page contains action' before you try and click it to essentially say if the webpage doesn't have that search button on it, then to click the filter button before trying to click it.

    Cheers,

    Matt

    Hi Matt, I cannot speak to how the filter window works but it does not hover you have to click the Filter icon to expand it. When I set the dropdown value it does not close the filter window, I put a 5-second Wait between steps and I see it does set the dropdown correctly, it just does not find the Search button on the next step.

    I used the Move mouse to image for the search button - which actually worked the first time! However, it no longer sees the image.

    1. Search icon - does not honor the filters,

    2. The filter does not close after the dropdown (if I do it step by step), but I think it does when I do a normal Run, however, it is so quick that it is difficult to see what is happening, which is why I added 5 second Wait's in-between steps to see what was happening, and definitely the filter window expands, the drop-down is populated correctly, but it just does not see the button (Press button on web page, or Move mouse to image actions). I also tested adding the Wait for web page content action, and it did not pick up the Search button.

    Thanks

    Did you try the “if webpage contains” action to determine if it’s not there, and to click the filter again within the if statement if so?

    Also, perhaps most importantly, did you review the screenshot of the error showing in the PAD flow log? The last step where it errors out should automatically take a screenshot that shows you what the page looked like when it errored, and that is critical to understanding what is making it fail.

    I did try the "if webpage contains" action but it does not pickup the button even though I can see it on the screen. I used the "Run next action" method so that I can see step by step what is happening, but it just hangs at that step (the timer just keeps running):

    this is the screen shot:

    paulwestgate_1-1667322242263.png

    Not exactly sure where to find the PAD flow log to see the screen shot where it errored.
