Power Automate to load Image from Sharepoint Library over to List with Image Column

I have a SharePoint list that I use for Asset Management. Each time I make a new list item, I manually go in to my SharePoint Library and get the image I want to use for that item.

I want to be able to either select the Image and have some of the SharePoint list item fields be filled out with the associated information (color, Manufacturer, Model...etc) or I want to be able to select Model and have some of the associated information including the image column be filled in with the Image I want.

Regardless, either way would be automated through Power Automate.  The problem I am running in to with Power Automate is it has no default ability to Update SharePoint Item specifically Image column. I've been researching quite a bit and it seems a workaround would be to use Send an HTTP request to SharePoint.

Source:

Power flow set Sharepoint list thumbnail field - Power Platform Community (microsoft.com)

Expiscornovus provided an explanation but it seems mighty complicated and seems to be more built for a Power App than a SharePoint list.  What would I need to change for it to work with a SharePoint Library and List instead?

Thank you.

    @Crow8083  so are you looking to update column in the library which stores the link of image? Is the data type of column - hyperlink or picture?

    Not exactly.

    I want to update the Device Photo column in the SharePoint list using Power Automate. The data type of the column is Thumbnail.

    Crow8083_0-1664367321428.png

    I would be grabbing the actual photo from a SharePoint library, which is in the same SharePoint Site as the List.

    The Power Automate flow so far is When an Item is Created > Switch " Model Value" > Case "Headset Model" > Update Item > Send an HTTP request to SharePoint.

    I would assume the JSON in the body of the HTTP request to SharePoint would "reach" out to the SharePoint library, find the specific jpg using the file name and/or ID, then would update the newly created Item's Device Photo column.

    From the JSON

    {"listItemCreateInfo":{"__metadata":{"type":"SP.ListItemCreationInformationUsingPath"},

    To me, this is saying get the information from the newly created item in the List.

    "FolderPath":{"__metadata":{"type":"SP.ResourcePath"},

    Get the folder path of the Library.

    "DecodedUrl":"/sites/@{variables('SiteName')}/Lists/@{variables('ListName')}"}},

    Get the SiteName and ListName

    "formValues":[{"FieldName":"Title","FieldValue":"Testing Requests Again","HasException":false,"ErrorMessage":null},

    Correct me if I am wrong, this part would be for the Power App fields for the other person in the original response and, I don't believe I would need to use this part.

    {"FieldName":"TestImage","FieldValue":"{\"type\":\"thumbnail\",\"fileName\":\"@{variables('fileName')}\",\"nativeFile\":{},\"fieldName\":\"TestImage\",\"serverUrl\":\"https://@{variables('YourDomain')}.sharepoint.com\",\"fieldId\":\"aad48642-2801-43c2-9394-d454f9d9ea35\",

    This seems like the specifics of the SharePoint List, like the Column name and type

    \"serverRelativeUrl\":\"/sites/@{variables('SiteName')}/SiteAssets/Lists/6b80aa3f-ef25-469f-9f07-8c4dd26aedec/@{variables('fileName')}\",\"id\":\"6e2fdb29-48fe-4e27-8350-4554851d58ea\"}"

    This seems like where you would specify the location of the image to pull from i.e. the SharePoint Library.

    ,"HasException":false,"ErrorMessage":null},{"FieldName":"ContentType","FieldValue":"Item","HasException":false,"ErrorMessage":null}],"bNewDocumentUpdate":false,"checkInComment":null}

    The rest seems to be related to exception prompts.

    Your thoughts on this?

    Thank you.

    @Crow8083  to make it simple do following, this is similar to what you are doing but all json in one action

    1. Add Compose action and add below json

    {
    "type":"thumbnail",
    "fileName":"variables('fileName')",
    "nativeFile":{},
    "fieldName":"TestImage",
    "serverUrl":"variables('SiteName')",
    "serverRelativeUrl":"SiteAssets/Lists/6b80aa3f-ef25-469f-9f07-8c4dd26aedec/@{variables('fileName')",
    "Id":"@{guid()}"
    }

    annajhaveri_0-1664447803047.png

    2. Then add Send HTTP Request to SharePoint action and configure it as shown in below screenshot, Replace 'Documents' with your document library name in the Uri

    annajhaveri_1-1664447872220.png

    below is the json used in body

    {
    "formValues":[
    {
    "FieldName":"testimage",
    "FieldValue":'@{outputs('Compose')}'
    }
    ],
    "bNewDocumentUpdate": true
    }

    @annajhaveri I followed your instructions. I keep getting a "Not well formatted JSON stream" error whenever I run the flow and it doesn't say where the formatting issue lies.

    This is my compose section, I have the serverRelativeUrl as my Image gallery or in other words where I want to pull images from.

    {
    "type":"thumbnail",
    "fileName":"@{variables('fileName')}",
    "nativeFile":{},
    "fieldName":"DevicePhoto",
    "serverUrl": "@{variables('SiteName')}",
    "serverRelativeUrl":"/Documents/IT Documentation/General IT/Images/@{variables('fileName')}",
    "Id":"@{guid()}"
    }

    Then the HTTP request

    Crow8083_1-1664457945508.png

    Body of HTTP request

    {
    "formValues":[
    {
    "FieldName":"DevicePhoto",
    "FieldValue":'@{outputs('Compose')}'
    }
    ],
    "bNewDocumentUpdate": true
    }

    I do know that you originally did not have double quotes around Compose and true. I added those in because I was attempting to find where the the formatting error location.

    Just to clarify, I want to pull images from the Library and place them in the List. If you believe there is a better way to go about this, please let me know.

    Thank you.

    @Crow8083  in the URI you need to provide the LibraryName which has the image column. Can you please also share screenshot of the compose action. And also share the json from the Send Http action from the flow run when you are getting json not formatted error.
