Save manually entered choice does not work in edit mode

I'm running into the following situation and could really use some help.

I have an edit form with some fields from a Sharepoint List.

One of them is called Load Terminal 2 which is a choice column.

The user can either select an available choice or enter a new item.

I have a save button which has the following DisplayMode:

If(frmEditLoad.Unsaved,DisplayMode.Edit,DisplayMode.Disabled) and when it's in Disabledmode the color is the same as the background and as such not visible.

The update value of the Load Terminal 2 Card is as follows:

If(!IsEmpty(DataCardValue24.Selected),
DataCardValue24.Selected,
{ Value: DataCardValue24.SearchText})

I can perfectly save this in the case I have made a choice from the existing items in the choice field or if I leave it empty.
However, when I type in something manually, the save button does not appear. It seems like it does not register this as a save.

If I change the update value of the Load Terminal 2 Card as follows:

If(!IsBlank(DataCardValue24.Selected),
DataCardValue24.Selected,
{Value: DataCardValue24.SearchText})

Then I can perfectly save in case I have made a choice from the existing items in the choice field or if I type in something manually, however when I keep it empty and click on save, in Sharepoint it removes the input but the save button remains active, so the form stays in UnsavedMode, despite the save being executed.

I almost feel like I have to combine the IsBlank and IsEmpty to properly solve this but I can't get my head around it. Any help for the update value of the card would be much appreciated!

    Please consider changing your Update Formula to the following:

    {Value: Coalesce(DataCardValue24.Selected.Value, DataCardValue24.SearchText)}

    This should give you better results.

    I hope this is helpful for you.

    Hi @RandyHayes , many thanks for your fast reply.

    If I do that, the form stays in Unsaved mode so th Cancel Changes/Save Button remain visible constantly and I cannot navigate away from the page since it will show a notification about unsaved changes.

    I notice that if I hit save, if I enter a manual item it gets stored and if I select one from the existing items it gets stored so that's great. However if I make it empty, it does not save. In all options, form remains in Unsaved.Mode.

    What am I overlooking?

    Yeah, choice columns are a little funny about how they have their values stored.  Little tricks like the one I suggested don't always flush out well with them with the Coalesce.

    What you will need is a little more specific:

    If(!IsBlank(DataCardValue24.Selected.Value), DataCardValue24.Selected,
     !IsBlank(DataCardValue24.SearchText, {Value: DataCardValue24.SearchText},
     Blank()
    )

    I have a similar issue with a very simple case. Single line text choice field in a list. This one field out of all others on the form will not take updates and will not allow typing in a new entry, even though that is allowed. All worked fine on the default form, but not in Power App.

    Field is "End Customer" in DataCardValue7.

    Default = ThisItem.'End Customer'

    Update = {Value:DataCardValue7.Selected.Value}

         (I changed this Update based on another post from the default DataCardValue7.Selected )

    I now tried adding this same field to the form again using the default values and it seems to update correctly. Except that it will not take manually entered values.

    ???????
