Add and update features on apps that are already in production

Hey everyone,

I wanted to know the best method to add or update existing features on apps (model driven or portal) that are already live and in the production environment.

Specifically I want my users to be able to continue using my app, while I continually test and push new features.

Thank you!

    Hi @Sevsep ,

After you publish an App Live, you can to continue to develop and save as many versions as you want (with notes when saving)

It is only when you decide to publish it that users get to see and use it.

Thank you for the reply @WarrenBelz ,

To be just a bit more specific I want to be able to view those saves before I publish. It seems that the 'play' button will only appear after I publish and the app goes live. So I essentially can't play with the app before I publish it.

Hope this made sense I can show screenshots if it doesn't.

    Thanks,

    Hi @Sevsep ,

You can of course "Play" the app from within the "Edit" mode, but you are correct when it comes to "Launching" as a user would.

I get around this (if I need to), by simply using "Save As" and making a copy (as it is shared only with myself, no one else can see it), or exporting a package and importing it into a test environment.

    Thanks @WarrenBelz ,

I'll look into the save as and the import and export docs (which I thought might be the case for this).

    Much appreciated!

    Hi @Sevsep ,

Very easy - when you select an App, you will see "Export Package" at the top. There are a couple of settings such as choosing new or update (I always do new) and this downloads a zip file.

When no app is selected you will see "Import Canvas App". Again, some actions such as setting the connectors. It not only exports/imports the PowerApp, but also any attached Flows. Rather than me document it, Shane Young does a great job (as usual) in this video.
